    C` Weatherstrip Adhesive

    Hello,

I have three different weatherstrip adhesives. Are any of these correct, or close, in color for a C1?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

      Dennis,

I would say the darker the better. This is what original glue looks like after 51 years and what the judges like to see...lots of glue!

        Thanks, Don.

I will probably use the first one marked A. The photo was taken before it completely dried and it is darker now that it dried. It is close to what is shown in your photo.

        Dennis

As long as it is yellow you should not have a problem. I use 3M in a tube.

Is it yellow or is it more brownish?

No problem. Just when you can would be nice so we can compare them too.

All the 3M yellow ones I've ever seen appear almost "fluorescent" in color and don't appear to me anything like the original glue. The term "gorilla snot" is often used to describe it. Most judges I've worked with would concur.

That's why knowing the names/brands of the others that Dennis shows us would be nice.

Tom Maxwell (Capital Restoration?) has the right stuff. You should be able to find him in the archives. The 3M yellow stuff just doesn't quite handle correctly or become the proper shade. The original was brushed on--the stuff that Maxwell has is brushed on also.

Wouldn't the w/strip adhesive on a new C1 have been closer to clear than amber or brown?

                          Patrick,

                          Sample marked A is
Permatex Super Weatherstrip Adhesive part # 80, item # 81731

                          Sample marked B is
                          Dynatex part # 49430

                          Sample marked C is
                          3M Weatherstrip Adhesive part # 051135

In your opinion, is sample A close to the correct color?

                            Michael,

I have never read anything that indicated clear adhesive was used. Would you share why you have this opinion?

If sample C is 3M, then either your camera or my monitor may be off.
Normally it appears much brighter yellow when I've seen it.

I went to my garage and checked. I have the Permatex and the 3M. I like the color of the Permatex much better.
